South Korea MFDS Launched Search Database for Herbal Medicine Related Information

The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety has launched a database of ‘National Herbal Medicine Information’ on 21 December 2020 so that information on herbal medicines can be searched by the public and can be used for quality control and product development

The menu consists of Pharmaceutical Information, Analysis Cases and Data Collection, Production Statistics and Research Materials, Herbal Medicine (Pharmaceutical) Formulation, International Cooperation ▲National Herbal Medicine Resource Management Center

They improved the usability by linking data from other government departments* such as medicinal plant production status.

In addition, included information on evidence samples, medicinal material information, photographs (eg, herbal medicines and plants of origin),  distribution in Korea, etc in accordance with the implementation of the international collaboration ‘Nagoya Protocol’ (effective August 17, 2017),  to provide support for discovering domestic biological resources and registering biological specimen.

The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety expects to greatly contribute to the revitalization of the herbal medicine industry by having this ‘National Herbal Medicine Information’ service for the general public to easily access and obtain necessary information, and to use the database for the development of new medicines using natural products.

The database search service can be assessed at 국가생약정보 http://nifds.go.kr/nhmi/
